Why buy from Whisper Outdoor?
FAQs
What hot tub accessories do I actually need?
Most owners need five essentials: a quality cover for insulation and safety, steps for safe entry, a chemical starter kit, replacement filters and test strips. Beyond those basics, accessories are about how you use your spa — handrails for stability, cup holders and floating trays for entertaining, aromatherapy and lighting for ambiance, and cover lifters to make daily use effortless. Every accessory we sell is matched to the spa models we manufacture, so fit isn’t a guessing game.
Will these accessories fit my hot tub?
Yes — every accessory in our shop is compatible with the spa brands we build and sell, including Catalina, Dr. Wellness, Hudson Bay, Plug & Power, Tuff Spas, and Whisper Spas. Covers, steps, filters and lifters are sized to our specific models. If you own a different brand, most universal accessories (chemicals, filters by size, floating accessories) will still fit — just check the dimensions or filter specs listed on the product page.
How often should I replace my hot tub filter?
Plan on replacing your filter every 3–6 months under normal use, and every 1–2 months for spas with heavy use, frequent guests, or pets. Cleaning helps — rinse weekly, deep-clean monthly with a filter cleaner — but cleaning doesn’t restore a worn filter. Each cleaning slightly weakens the pleats, so even a well-maintained cartridge loses filtration efficiency over time. Most spa owners are running their filter longer than they should: a tired filter is the #1 cause of cloudy water, weak jet pressure, and overworked pumps. Pro tip — keep two filters on hand and rotate them, so a clean dry filter is always ready. We stock the right filter for every spa we sell.
How long does a hot tub cover last, and when should I replace it?
A standard vinyl-and-foam hot tub cover lasts 3–5 years before performance starts to drop — sometimes less in harsh climates with strong sun, heavy snow, or freeze-thaw cycles. Watch for waterlogged foam (the cover feels noticeably heavier), sagging in the middle, cracked or faded vinyl, mildew odor when you open it, or rising energy bills — heat loss through a worn cover can add hundreds of dollars a year to your electric costs, so a new one often pays for itself within a season or two. If you’re tired of replacing covers every few years, our patented Tuff Top and TT3 hard cover options are engineered as a longer-lasting alternative — built with rigid, weather-resistant construction that resists the waterlogging, sagging, and UV breakdown that retire most standard covers, delivering years of additional service life and stronger insulation over the long run.
What chemicals do I need to keep my hot tub clean?
A standard maintenance kit includes a sanitizer (chlorine or bromine), pH increaser and decreaser, alkalinity balancer, and a shock treatment for weekly use. Test strips check your levels in seconds. We sell starter kits that bundle everything for the first 3–6 months of ownership, and refill packs once you know what you use most. If you’re new to spa care, our starter kits remove the guesswork.
Do I need steps and a handrail?
Steps yes, handrail strongly recommended — especially for kids, older adults, or anyone with mobility considerations. Wet acrylic and tile are slippery, and a handrail is one of the most affordable safety upgrades you can add. Our steps are sized for the cabinet height of our spa models, and handrails install without drilling into the spa shell.
Are aromatherapy, lighting, and audio accessories worth it?
If you use your spa for relaxation rather than just hydrotherapy, yes. Aromatherapy cartridges, color-changing LED lighting, and waterproof Bluetooth speakers are the upgrades owners mention most when describing what made their spa feel like a “real” experience versus just a hot tub. They’re inexpensive, and are installed and tested by our factory experts prior to delivery.
